Contract Negotiations – Kroger – November 4th

On November 4th, we met one day with representatives from Kroger for the third time to negotiate the contracts for Fred Meyer and QFC. The Negotiations Committee put a proposal across the table to standardize night time premium pay across the jurisdiction. In this proposal, we also pushed for a return to time-and-a-half on holidays for all bargaining unit workers. While your employers were receptive to some of the standardization, they were not interested in the return to time-and-a-half. Your Committee still remains committed to this issue. You may have noticed in the media that employers are saying there is a “labor shortage.” In reality there is a pay and safety shortage. At a time when Kroger is struggling to find workers, we feel that not only should they be increasing your pay, but should also abandon their position of a two-tier holiday pay program, returning all workers to time-and-a-half on holidays. We also discussed the new federal vaccine mandate. As the rules came out last night, both parties are waiting to see what options the states of Oregon and Washington put forth for a testing option as an alternative to the vaccine, before continuing those talks. UFCW is committed to the position that vaccines are safe and encourages them, but we also stand by members rights’ to make their own healthcare decisions. Your Union will meet with Kroger again next week on November 10th and 11th. Please help support your union by doing your part when asked. Be sure to watch your union bulletin board, your email, Facebook, Twitter, and ufcw555.org for more information. You can also reach out to your Union Representative, Shop Steward, or Bargaining Team member on how to get involved.
