Grocery store union collecting strike votes, says stores aren’t paying enough

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Employees at Fred Meyer, Albertsons, Safeway, and QFC around Oregon and southwest Washington say they aren’t getting paid enough. They’re union is considering a strike.

United Food and Commercial Workers Local 555 says they are taking strike authorization votes among their members. The union has collected about half the strike votes so far, but staffers say members have nearly unanimously voted in favor so far. They won’t declare a strike until all members are heard.
