Kroger Update: 11/11/21

On November 10th and 11th we met with representatives from Kroger for the fourth time to negotiate the contracts for Fred Meyer and QFC. We reiterated our proposed language to return holiday pay for all employees to time-and-a-half, eliminating the existing two-tier system. We are asking for new language to create a contractual ratio of full time positions in our stores, above what stores currently utilize. We presented the employers with proposals surrounding the upcoming vaccine mandate. UFCW is committed to the position that vaccines are safe and encourages them, but there needs to be an option for testing. We continued to talk about the need for safety committees in our stores to help shape store policy. Recent violent acts near some of our stores, including an active shooter near one of our locations, have highlighted the need. After some back and forth, we reached a Tentative Agreement on safety committees that would create a Master Safety Committee between the Union and Kroger, as well as store level committees with the ability to escalate issues from the store level to the Master Safety Committee. This will allow for safety issues to be more effectively addressed at the store level, with a path for larger issues or issues not being addressed by store level committees, to be addressed by the Master Safety Committee. The next round of negotiations is to be scheduled and will be announced. Please help support your union by doing your part when asked. Be sure to watch your union bulletin board, your email, Facebook, Twitter, and ufcw555.org for more information. You can also reach out to your Union Representative, Shop Steward, or Bargaining Team member on how to get involved.
