On October 27th and 28th, your Negotiations Committee held our fourth session for Safeway and Albertsons members.
With Local 368A fully merged into Local 555, we handed the employers proposals that would consolidate the more than two dozen contracts in Idaho and Wyoming into one. Bringing them together will standardize the grievance process, contract language, and expiration dates. These contracts all have very small differences, and operations from store to store are functionally the same.
We had discussions and made proposals to properly identify head clerk positions throughout stores and properly compensate employees who take on additional responsibilities. Your employer said they would need more time to investigate and respond to our proposal.
We continued the discussion around the mobility of clerks in stores with the end goal of improving your work life while addressing the staffing concerns of the employer. This would increase the guarantee of your hours, and create a more predictable schedule.
We next meet with the employer representatives for Safeway and Albertsons on November 17th and 18th.
