My Union
We are Union Strong.
What it means to be
Union Strong
A union is the perfect example of the term “strength in numbers.” Together, we have more power to protect each other, to fight for better working conditions, to pressure our elected leaders to put working families above corporations, and to have better benefits because we are able to negotiate in large numbers.
-
Traditional Benefits
Medical. Retirement. AD&D. Group discounts. Belonging to a large group gives us an impressive benefit set.
-
Collective Bargaining
Unions began with the premise of being able to bargain together. Individually, corporations don’t have to care about us…but when taken together, we are capable of threatening action that would bring those employers to their knees. And so, we negotiate with one voice, on behalf of all.
-
Legislative Action
We stand up to big money in politics two ways: through actions and by pooling our resources. The Active Ballot Club (ABC) combines a few dollars from many people to equal enough money to fight for change that isn’t available through contracts with our employers. And our actions are also proven to make a huge difference.
Traditional Benefits
Please note, each contract is slightly different. Not all benefits will apply equally to different contracts, so be sure to familiarize yourself with yours. If you don’t have a copy, get one!
Health & Welfare [Medical] Options
You can’t beat union medical coverage. Learn more about what’s available to you.
Retirement Options
Remain informed about your retirement options. Unions are one of the last bastions of retirement protection in this country.
Supplemental Insurance
American Income Life offers supplemental AD&D coverage.
Union Plus Discounts
As a union member, you have access to the Union Plus discount program.
Collective Bargaining
UFCW Local 555 negotiates approximately 160 contracts in Oregon and SW Washington. That’s a lot. When your contract is up for renewal you can expect that a bargaining team will convene and that you will be informed of the goings-on and when/whether actions are needed.
Communication leads—members who volunteer to be workplace leaders and spread the latest details to their colleagues—will be able to tell you of the latest happenings and you can also follow along here, as the latest news from current negotiations and ratifications are listed.

Legislative Action
If you don’t yet belong to the Active Ballot Club (ABC), please join to help strengthen our case as we fight for worker-friendly policies in Oregon and Washington State.
Additionally, please watch this space for news on any upcoming legislative actions we need your help amplifying.
