On April 24 and 25, your Bargaining Committee met with representatives from McCain Foods for our third bargaining session, working toward your new Union contract for all bargaining unit employees at McCain Foods.
In light of information provided to the Union at our last bargaining session, your bargaining committee put forward a proposal to end drafting at McCain Foods, while maintaining your right to work additional hours if you wish. This proactive step is essential for ensuring that McCain Foods meets the supplier compliance requirements of major clients such as McDonald’s. This change will ensure their continued position as a supplier, protecting the mutual interests of both the Union and McCain Foods in maintaining those contracts.
After making repeated requests in previous bargaining sessions for the Union to provide economic proposals, your employer had no response to our economic proposals, even after having a week to review them and prepare a response. It’s unfortunate we cannot “draft” responses from your employer like they are currently able to draft you to work on short notice.
As we have said before, the dedicated workforce of McCain Foods, you the union members, are the true strength of this company. Your skills and commitment actively drive McCain’s success and are a vital part of the Burley community. We are confident that when the time comes to act to protect your livelihoods and secure your future, the Burley community will offer its support.
The union movement is about workers working together to improve their lives. When we work together, we win better lives for all of us.
We meet again next week on May 1 and 2 and again on May 5 and 6. We will update you after the completion of our next bargaining sessions.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your Union Representative.
