Bargaining Update – Unity Retail: Fully Recommended Tentative Agreements Reached for Safeway, Albertsons, Carrs, Rosauers, & Sherms
UFCW Local 555 is excited to announce that fully recommended tentative agreements have been reached for all grocery and meat contracts with Albertsons, Safeway, Rosauers and Sherms in Oregon and Southwestern Washington. Meetings will be scheduled to address the warehouse portions of our Sherms contracts in the coming weeks.

Oregon and SW Washington – After months of negotiations, members of UFCW Local 555 who work at Fred Meyer and QFC stores in Oregon and SW Washington have overwhelmingly voted to ratify a new 3-year contract.

The Fred Meyer Division and UFCW Local 555 Bargaining Committees are pleased to announce that we have reached fully recommended tentative agreements on the expired Portland and Bend grocery and meat contracts: on all other Oregon and southwestern Washington grocery, meat, and non-food contracts, as well as agreements for the newly organized non-food units in Springfield and Grants Pass.

On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, your Union Bargaining Committee met with representatives from Fred Meyer and Kroger to bargain over the Fred Meyer Non-Food employees in Springfield, Oregon who voted yes to join our Union and won their election in February.

Throughout July and August, despite making several proposals which clearly applied to both Fred Meyer and QFC, on August 23, the Employer changed their position and said they were no longer bargaining over QFC alongside Fred Meyer.

On Thursday, October 3 and Friday, October 4, your Bargaining Committee met with representatives from Safeway / Albertsons to continue bargaining for our new Union contracts throughout our area in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Wyoming, in conjunction with UFCW Local 1496 in Alaska.

The employer has not changed their position at the bargaining table that they are only here to bargain for the Union contracts that have expired, which are the Portland Grocery and Meat Agreements and the Bend Grocery and Meat Agreements.

If elected, UFCW Local 555 is calling on him to investigate Fred Meyer (Kroger) for possible systematic price gouging on essential items purchased with WIC and SNAP benefits during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tigard, Oregon – After thousands of Fred Meyer grocery and meat department workers held an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike, they returned to work as of 8:00 AM on Tuesday, September 3. UFCW 555 is now calling on the community to support workers by not shopping at Fred Meyer until a fair agreement is reached and Fred Meyer’s admitted price gouging has stopped.

On August 29 and August 30, your Bargaining Committee met with representatives from Kroger, Fred Meyer and QFC for our 6th bargaining session. Our Union and the employer originally had two dates scheduled, but ended up bargaining through the night August 30 and into August 31.
